Well....what do you think? If you guessed salt, you are exactly right! Max had a great time working on his science experiment for the big SCIENCE FAIR at school. His hypothesis was wrong (he thought baking soda would dissolve better "because it is a powder, and salt is little rocks") and that is what makes Science SO COOL. Thanks to my "science" friend, Lynn Copes (from chorus) she helped us understand WHY salt dissolved better! Max learned about ionic and covalent bonds and that salt is an ionic (weaker) bond and doesn't hold atoms together very well (water can easily pull them apart) and baking soda is a covalent (stronger) bond and holds atoms together better (it's harder for water to pull them apart)
